Noah attended a week -long sleep-away camp – Camp Smiles with Easter Seals – at Camp For All. Camp For All is an accessible camp about an hour and a half from here, and each July, Easter Seals has their camp for people with CP called Camp Smiles. Each camper has a dedicated volunteer who stays with them throughout the week. We were really nervous about Noah going – I mean, come on, he’s 8 and leaving us for an entire week! – but the fact that we got to know his volunteer Sarah and that his PM&R doctor is the camp doctor made us a little more comfortable. It also helps that we went for a weekend last year and are familiar with the facilities.
Some pictures from our trip to Morgan’s Wonderland in San Antonio. We’ve been there once before, but there’s been some expansion of the park since then.
We went to Morgan’s Wonderland in San Antonio with some of our friends from Arbor for the weekend. Friday night, we had a big group dinner at a pizza place, and the kids had the opportunity to make a little pizza of their own.
Up close and personal with Noah.
There’s an interactive show with Captain Jack Sparrow and one of his shipmates right outside The Pirates of the Caribbean. They choose a few children from the audience to participate and learn to fight like a pirate. No surprise, Miss Maya got herself front and center.
Captain Jack Sparrow found the blue polka dot sundress to be mighty fearsome. She even repeated the line about Blackbeard’s daughter in the same British(y) accent he used when he was teaching her the moves.
Victory for the pirates!
After the performance, all the kids were called up to join the Pirate’s League. Since I was standing next to Noah, though, I didn’t get a great shot of him.
The last several times we’ve been to the Magic Kingdom, we’ve gone into Enchanted Tales with Belle. The attraction is really cute, and the kids can get parts in re-enacting part of the story of Beauty and the Beast. Sometimes Noah gets a part, sometimes he isn’t terribly interested. Maya gets the same part every time, though. She is the Beast. Every time. Girl has a roar, that’s all I can say.
