We went with a Spring theme for Maya’s (pink) and mine (yellow). I used stickers for fingernails and then coated the bands with clear nail polish. Noah’s is green, since we will be there for St. Patrick’s Day. His is several coats of green nail polish with clear on top.
Houston does an outdoor skating rink at Discovery Green every year. It opens in November and closes some time in January, I think. Since our weather is rarely conducive to outdoor ice skating, I suspect it takes quite a bit to maintain the rink. In fact, the edges were a pooling a bit while we were there. But the kids had a fantastic time. I even got to look a little less like a disaster waiting to happen, thanks to Mr. Noah – his wheelchair provided a LOT of stability!
Aunt Sara and Nene came to skate with us, too. Aunt Sara even has her own skates!
We had a great time! Such a cool thing the city of Houston does.
My parents bought a special wine dinner at an auction, which we were all eagerly awaiting. It was awesome. Sami liked what was on his plate!
Maya got her first experience in Tiger Stadium, seeing LSU play Kentucky. We sat right behind the band, so she had the opportunity to cheer and dance a lot during the game. We only made it until half-time, but given that the game was a 41-3 victory, I think that was ok.
LSU played Wisconsin in Houston as the season opener. How could we not go? An LSU graduate and a UW graduate married to each other? No question! Even if we were a house divided. Truly, though, while the LSU fans were the majority of the game, I was in the minority, at least among our group. One LSU graduate with 3 UW graduates and one UW graduate spouse. Even counting my undergraduate and law degrees, I was still outnumbered! It didn’t matter, though, LSU won. So there.
